Asbestos Awareness
Asbestos is known as ‘the hidden killer’. The naked eye can see particles that are around 50-60 microns – asbestos particles are on average around 5 microns. Therefore, it’s essential that people are trained in asbestos awareness so as to avoid coming into contact with Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) completely.
White asbestos was only banned in the UK as recently as 1999, which means that any building built, or refurbished up until the year 2000, may contain asbestos.
Employers must ensure that any workers or supervisors who may disturb asbestos during the normal course of their work, be aware of:-
- how to recognise asbestos
- the dangers of asbestos exposure and asbestos-related diseases
- legal responsibilities in managing ACMs in buildings
This course will highlight who are most at risk of exposure to asbestos and what can be done to protect your colleagues and workforce. There is currently no known cure for any asbestos-related diseases.
